ISLAMIC STUDIES   JSS I  Week II   TOPIC: THE QUR'AN AS A BOOK OF ALLAH The Noble Quran, the great book of Allah has been given many names but the Quran is a commonly used name. Almighty Allah Himself has given this book the name of the Qur’an. The Qur'an is a word of Allah. The term Qur'an means: to read or to recite. The Qur'an was revealed to Prophet Muhammad SAW through Arch-angel Jibril AS in Cave of Hira,  at the mount There is 30 juz in the Quran.  There are 6236 verses in the Quran.   In the Holy Quran, the word Quran is used 70 times. Half of the length of the juz of the Quran is called Hizb. There are 60 Hizb in the Holy Quran. Each Hizb consists of four quarters. These quarters are known as Rubu. There are 114 Suwar in the Quran. The shortest Surah of the Holy Quran is Surah ‘ al-Kausar ’. This shortest surah consists of three (3) verses only. ISLAMIC STUDIES JSS II WEEK II Topic: Suratul fil INTRODUCTION Suratul fil (Chapter of the Elephant”) is the 105th chapter (surah) of the Quran. It is a Mekkkan sura consisting of 5 verses. The surah is written in the interrogative form. ARABIC TEXT The arabic text of suratul fil view here TRANSLITETRATION OF SURATUL FIL 1. Alam tara kaifa fa’ala rabbuka bi ashaabil feel 2. Alam yaj’al kai dahum fee tad leel. 3. Wa arsala ‘alaihim tairan abaabeel. 4. Tar meehim bi hi jaaratim min sij jeel. 5. Faja ‘alahum ka’asfim m’akool. Unlike the Quran, the hadith was not documented during the Prophet’s lifetime. The Prophet is reported to have discouraged the writing of his sayings lest they might be confused with the text of the Quran. The Hadith were therefore passed on mainly orally before they were committed to writing and gathered into collections between one hundred and three hundred years after Hijrah during the reign of the Caliphate of Umar Ibn Abdul ' Aziz. Obviously, when words are not recorded in writing at once there is a possibility of errors in their transmission: 1.
